Papertrey Ink June 2012 blog hop

Just take a look at that inspiration photo!  I just love the colors and all those ruffles!  I wish I had these in my house!  I love grey as a neutral background too.  I never realized just how neutral grey is until it became popular recently!  The challenge is simply to make a project using that photo as a guide.

Oh I have to say I am pretty thrilled at how this card turned out!  I did it!  I stamped my own patterned paper!  I can't tell you how nervous I was!!!  I looked at Nichole's multi-step background building video. Although the video was very helpful.I still didn't feel ready to produce something usable. I browsed countless cards in hopes of understanding better the placement of the stamps.  Then I just said...stop worrying and go for it!  I think it looks great and I can't wait to stamp more of my own paper!  I used my Card Base 7: Pleats file  for the base of the card.  Adding pleats is easy with this file because the cutter does the scoring for you.
The birthday sentiment is from my Elegant Sentiments file.  I cut the sentiment in green then an outline of it in grey and finally added a yellow off set shadow. I really thinks this helps the sentiment stand out against my patterned paper.  Hand dyed seam binding, a flower, bead cap, and rhinestones finish off the card.

PTI stamps used:

Rosie Posie: small daisy and center
Turning a New Leaf
Round and Round Anniversary Set:  butterfly
Paper Tray: small flower and dotted center
Honey Bees: happy sentiment

If you would like to purchase any of the cutting files I used please click on the previews below to be taken directly to my store.

The Card Base 7 file is on sale until the end of June 2012 for 30% off so hurry!

Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again!  Enjoy your week! I"m off to make banana cake!

Papertrey Ink MIM #71 Bordered Sentiments take 2

Here is the second card I made for the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday bordered sentiments challenge.  If you missed my other card check it out here.

So I dug out some more of the old Creative Memories patterned paper.  I've had this forever and it feels great to actually use some up!  I love this color combo.  I still didn't get a perfect mask on two of the flowers but hey practice makes perfect right...I did do better with the sunflowers!  I colored in the dots on the sunflower center with a Copic marker to bring in more of the aqua mist color.  I have to say this is a nice change for me just picking a color scheme and chosing ink colors and tone on tone papers to go with it.  I normally pick a multi-colored pattern paper and draw colors from that for the focal point of my card.  Clear Rhinestones and some baker's twine finishes off the card.

Papertrey Stamps used:
Everyday Classics: dahlia type flowers and Hello sentiment
Rosie Posie:  largest daisy flower and circle center
Honey Bees:  two smallest flowers
Mat Stack 2: celebrate today and always and friend sentiment
Round and Round anniversary set: sunflower

Hmm I wonder how this would work for a scrapbook page...maybe a bordered title with the flowers filling in a journaling box type shape..would definitely cut down on the bulk of my pages!  I know you are probably thinking..what Shelly scrapbook's?  I do but only seem to have time to do it at crops.  I will share some pages with you some day...in the Fall when both my kids are in school...my goal is to share and complete at least one scrapbook page a week so stay tuned.....!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again!

Papertrey Ink MIM #71 Bordered Sentiments

I'm just popping in to show you what I made for Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday challenge #71.  It involves masking stamps to border your sentiments.  Check out the video tut here.

Here is my first attempt:

I loved Betsy's example soo much so I decided to copy it.  I did change the colors a bit.  I used stamps that I had since I didn't own the set Betsy used (more details below).  I wish I would have invested in one of the Think Big sentiments as it would have come in handy here. I combined sentiments from 3 different stamp sets to achieve a large enough sentiment.  I was thrilled to be able to use this very old Creative Memories patterned paper.  This was before they even came out with a 12 x 12 size!  I keep thinking I should just sell it or give it to the kids but figured tone on tone prints like this has to come in handy some day.  .....See I was right!  I added clear rhinestones since I didn't have any pretty pearls.  I still didn't have nice clean masking as Betsy did.  I created a second card and eventually learned you must press really hard in order to get the ink over the post it note mask and right up against the drawn line.   I do love how this gives a one layer card such depth!  I might try it with a vellum stamped sentiment strip so I don't have to worry about masking. These would be great for OWH cards.

Papertrey Ink Stamps used:
Everyday Classics: largest flower and Hello sentiment
Rosie Posie:  medium rose flower
Honey Bees:  two smallest flowers
Mat Stack 2: celebrate today and always and friend sentiment
Paper Tray: Good sentiment

Have a blessed Sunday!  Thanks for stopping by and please come back again!

We love you Dad and sale continues!

Dads deserve soo much thanks today. I can't image what I would do without the men in my life. I admire those of you who are single Moms! I know there are times we take things for granted but it's nice to have one day set aside to really tell our men how special they are! Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dad's out in the world!

My sale continues so if you need a little something to complete your Dad projects simply hop on over to my store here and save some money.

I had 3 cards to make for Dad's day this year so I decide to create a few files to help me with this task. I always start out making things early but days don't go as planned and I fall behind.  You saw one of the cards in yesterday's post.  I ended up just simply making two of these to save time.

Well you see I sat down and managed to get the truck from Stampin' Up's Loads of Love stamp set colored with Copics.  I also heat embossed the silver accents and added a little Spica glitter markers to the hearts.  I thought I had paper to go with this image but as it turned out nothing I had worked out right...so...I decided to make some papers.  I wanted something masculine but not dark and dreary..something that would work for Dad but also for children and feminine projects too so that is why I decided to add the pop of yellow.  So I finished designing the papers and had intended to use my Card Base 9 cutter file to complete the card.  However I was running short on time.  So I decided to use the digital version Digi Card Template 5.  to speed things up a bit.  The base is one layer with the diamond border from the cutter file and other accents added over top.  This saved lots of time since all I had to do was clip the papers to the template and print.  I even printed another one at the same time..this way I would have one to use later.  Oh and I just printed this on plain white cardstock.  But if you click on the photo you will see the card has some texture to it.  (Sorry for the dark photo..one of these days I will invest in a light box)  I used a Stampin' Up texture plate to achieve this.  I really like how it give a little depth to the one layer printout.

The above card is completely digital.  I can print several of these and have them ready at a moments notice for when..gasp..I forget a birthday or something!  I used Digi Card Template 5, Ziggity Zag digital papers, and Ice Cream with Bowl digi template. These type of cards are also great for Operation Write Home (OWH) since they are completely flat and you can print many at once to send.

If you would like to purchase any of the files used in my above cards please click on the previews below.

My talented creative design team member Kelly Stone also has been busy with one of my newer files.  She used my Father's Day Shirt file to make cards for the special men in her life.

Aren't they great looking shirts and cards!  I love how Kelly inked the blue gingham pieces to give the shirt lots of depth.  I also love how Kelly tilted the orange striped shirt slightly..makes it more fun!  Please click the preview below if you'd like to purchase this shirt file.

Have an absolutely wonderful Father's Day weekend!  Thanks for stopping by and please come back again!  I soo enjoy your company and comments!

Happy Father's Day Sale!

Happy Father's Day!  I like to think I am an independent woman but I truly can say I'd be lost without the men in my life!  I am truly blessed with a wonderful husband, father and father in law.  Thanks Dad!  Do you have your Father's day cards done?  If not I may be able to help you out.  I have several files that will help you make a wonderful card for the special men in your life! Click the Ad above to go shopping. Oh and my whole store is on sale including digital cutter files, digital stamps and digital scrapbooking supplies.

Above is the card I made.  I used two new files available for instant download in my store now.  Father's Day Shirt, and Card Base 12.    It was soo much fun making this shirt.  I loved finding the perfect "tie" paper!  I am not a seamstress in any sense of the word but paper piecing with my file I can do!  I added little metal studs to the shirt and tie acting as "man" jewelry.  The buttons actually are similar to what might be used on a man's dress shirt.  Can you tell I had a blast putting this card together!  If you would like to purchase the files to have your own fun please click on the links below.

I have several other card bases available.  You can see them here.  One thing nice about these is the versatility of them.  You can choose papers to match your theme so these work for masculine, feminine and children cards.  These are great to showcase die cuts but also they are wonderful for stamps.  Sometimes, I spend soo much time using cutter files I forget how great it is to work with stamps.  I like having these card bases to take the guess work out of where to put papers and elements so I can focus on the fun creative part!
We have many different names for the father's and grandfather's in our lives.  So in my file I tried to cover the most common.  I do hope there is one that works for you.

Oh and please check out my store throughout my sale.  I have a few new files coming tonight or tomorrow.

Happy Father's Day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Papertrey Ink MIM #69

Hello everyone!

I decided while I was suffering from insomnia last night/morning to participate in the current Make it Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink.  I just  hate it when I lay in bed not sleeping when I could be doing something productive.  I read for a while but decided that wasn't helping me sleep so why not go create!  I needed a book marker for my book and I thought Nichole's sketch would be perfect to use a a guideline.

I found her whole post super interesting.  She made card sketches from various photos...thinks like advertisements and pot holders.  It truly gave me a new way to look at things.  You can check out her post along with a video on how she used the above sketch here.

I knew I wanted to use this wonderful glittery paper from First Edition called Desert Bloom and some beads but after that I think my sleepiness prevented me from thinking clearly because I'm not totally in love with this bookmark!  The Desert Bloom paper was card stock weight so I didn't want to double the thickness of it by backing it with another paper so I just decided to ink and stamp the underside.  But then I decided to add even more florals by way of the flower stamp in Everyday Classics anniversary stamp set by PTI. The leaves are from PTI's turning a new leaf stamp set.  I just think there are too many florals involved and my stamped images are the same scale as the patterned paper...which isn't good.  In hindsight I should have just stamped a bee happy sentiment from honey bees along with a small bee instead of those florals.  I tried taking the book marker apart but I already had the beads and eyelet on so it's staying this way for good!  Oh well it's much better than the book marker I borrowed from the kids!    I did learn a new technique too...use a thin gage wire fold it in half and place the organza ribbon in between the two halves.  Thread the loose ends of the wire through the bead and pull and the ribbon will magically be threaded onto the bead!  I knew that jewelry making kit would come in handy one of these days!

School let out last Friday but we've been running all week!  Tyler had basketball school Tuesday through Thursday.  (Today he and Adoree got to go to work with Daddy!)  He had a lot of fun!  I was amazed at how much better he played then last year.  Next year we'll have to get Adoree in too..I know she will love it as she even got a chance to shoot after school was over.  She even as she put it "made some hoops!"

I am loving my sports mode on my camera!  When I was shopping I definitely wanted a sports mode but didn't realize just how much I would use it!  I could never have gotten a shot like this with my old camera!  I just love how Tyler's feet are off the ground in this photo!  I even used the sports mode for things like birthday parties since kids never sit still!  No wonder they are soo skinny!

Do you guys have any advice on how to stop the sibbling squabbling and have a fun Summer?  Adoree and Tyler fight quite a bit...I would think they would be glad to have each other to play with..but...they can't ever agree on how they play.  Today Tyler wanted to be a boss as he insists every type of game they wanted to play needed to have a boss.  Well Adoree wasn't about to let her brother boss her around!  UGH!  I have been pinning on Pinterest several activities for the kids to do during the Summer months...so I need to have some cooperation or nothing will be fun!

I made up a chore chart and reward system today and am going to put that to use starting Monday.  The kids seems to like what they have seen of the system so far...I just hope it works!  Once I give it a try for a few weeks.. and see if it actually works I'll share it with you!

Okay I'm still sleepy and I tend to gab when I'm sleepy so I will stop now before I bore you to bits!

Have a fabulous weekend and thanks for stopping by!  Come back again!
