Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary Color Pop Fortune Teller Challenge and Case This Sketch #159

This challenge was cute!  It involved printing out a fortune teller (we also know it as a cootie catcher) and by following the instructions provided the fortune teller would provide you with a color scheme to use.  My daughter loved it soo much that she did it with each family member even though they had no desire to make a card.  Time is winding down as all challenge entries must be posted by 7 am tomorrow morning but you can still download the fortune teller to have any time you get stuck for a color combo.  Click here.
I  decided to make this challenge really easy since the colors were already provided for me I sought out the latest Case This Sketch Challenge to help me complete my card.

The colors the fortune teller provided me were Berry Sorbet, Aqua Mist and Summer Sunrise.  My wonderful MISTI and PTI's Plaid Builder stamp set made the background appear in no time! I used black fun foam to cut the die cut which added dimension quickly.  Sure beats cutting several layers of cardstock and gluing them together!

Case This Sketch #125

I needed to get a graduation card made pronto.  So I sought out the Case This Sketch blog. Here is the sketch:

Here is what I came up with:

The 2015 background and word die cuts are files I created on my KNK.  I stamped the star from Papertrey Ink's Let Freedom Ring in the middle of each "0" and the chevrons were from Papertrey Ink's Background Basics: Diagonals Additions  I cut the letters out of regular red cardstock and covered them in glossy accents to add shine.

Case This Sketch #116 and Colour Q #284

Hello everyone!  Are you enjoying the Spring weather?!  I am loving hearing the birds and seeing the bulbs push their vibrant green leaves out of the ground BUT...I just wish the temps would get a little warmer.   If this keeps up the Easter bunny will have to wear a coat!

I apologize but I had so much furn with the PTI challenge involving stamping your own patterned paper (discussed in my last post) that I just had to try it again.   I decided to use :

and

That way I wouldn't have to rack my brain figuring out a style and color for my card set.  I can get to the fun part...decorating!

I have to apologize for the poor photos.  I have a light box but am trying to figure out the best position for the lights in my room.

I used PTI's Make It Monday #45: Coloring Embossed Images with Copics. Yes it is an older video but one of my favorite techniques! I haven't felt like coloring detailed images with shading and such as you are supposed to with Copics so this technique makes my Copics feel less neglected and me more creative!

I used PTI's Year of Flowers collection and Mat Stack Two to complete my card set.  I added a layer of glossy accents to the flowers to really make them pop!  I also tried a new embellishment.  Some messy gold thread behind the focal image.  I love the texture it adds without adding a lot of bulk!  I think I need to find some in silver too!

Time to run!  Thanks for stopping by and be sure to visit again!  Those of you in my part of the world...stay warm!

Color Q #225 and Case This Sketch #60 challenges

Hello again!  This is my second post for today so if you are looking for the card a day blog or fusion challenges please see previous post.

I absolutely adore sketches.  The hardest part of creating cards is figuring out where to put my elements so when I found the Case This Sketch challenge I just had to join in.  Here is the sketch:

Here is what I came up with using the sketch:

I figured why not make things even easier (or so I thought) and seek out the latest Colour Q challenge for my color inspiration.

Aren't these colors gorgeous together and the sketch is pretty simple too...should make for fast card creating.  NOT!  Do you ever have a project where you keep changing and adding things and still it doesn't look right?  Well this was one of those projects.  It started off simple enough but I made it complicated.  Let's see First I stamped the image from Stampin Up's just believe and heat embossed it in white.  I wanted to use the PTI's MIM #45 coloring embossed Images with copics to incorporate the challenge colors.  I love this technique to add multiple colors to non layering stamps!

This technique worked pretty well even on the very textured card stock.  I added a heat embossed sentiment from PTI's Year of Flowers collection stamp set.  I mimicked the stitching in the sketch by using my Sew Easy and the circle pattern.  The image still seemed to need something so I added the tiny pearls and yes I kept fussing with the image still and ended up adding the twine bow.  I put everything together modeling the sketch and still wasn't happy with the background.  I ended up stamping it with script background using distress inks and then sponging distress inks around the edge.  Then I ran it through the Grand Calibur with my favorite texture plate.  Would you believe the card still looked too plain to me.  So I stamped the burgundy strip with PTI's Fancy Flourishes.  Then I added some scallops to the side of the burgundy strip.  Whew!  Now I'm restraining myself from adding anything else!  I really thought this card was going to be simple!  It is a simple sketch..I should try it with a scrap patterned paper strip and a simple focal image sometime.
