Papertrey Ink Create Along With Us July 2016

This week is the new product release week at Papertrey Ink.  The designers have been busy getting samples made with the new products so they haven't had time to film any technique videos.  So this week we are to make a card using one of the design team's cards for inspiration.

I knew right away which card I would choose as my inspiration piece.

Isn't that card designed by Dawn McVey just gorgeous!  You can see more details about the card on Dawn's blog here.

I dug out some much neglected patterned paper from Chatterbox and got to work trimming.  I didn't have the die Dawn used but I did have an old Creative Memories wavy trimmer which helped to trim the patterned papers into that curvy wave shape.  I gotta tell ya it feels wonderful to dig out some old supplies and give them new life!  I cut the Hugs die out of white fun foam to give it more dimension. I combined two different stamp sets to get the sentiment I wanted.  The "sending you"  and "and" sentiments are from Hero Arts Prayers stamps and the actual word "Prayers" is from PTI's Painted Petals stamp set. A few iridescent sequins finishes the card.

Since I had to cut into a 12 x 12 paper to make the card...I decided to make a few more cards.

I needed a bunch of thank you cards to send out.  However, my PTI "Thanks" was too large for this card design.  I remember Jennifer McGuire doing a video where she used the heat gun to shrink the fun foam so I did just that.  You can find Jennifer's wonderful video here.
Check it out!  The top is the size of the original die cut.  The bottom is the shrunken fun foam.  I know it's not a huge difference but shrinking made the die cut the perfect size for this card.  I cut off the "s" so I could add the sentiment from PTI's The Skinny stamp set.  I also added some clear Wink of Stella glitter to the blue part of the flower.  Oh and the flower center is colored in with a Copic marker.

Papertrey Ink Make it Monday #242 and Case This Sketch #162

This week's make it Monday video over at Papertrey ink involves sponging on various inks onto your stamps to get a multi-colored blended image.  Check out Dawn's fabulous video here.

I decided to also participate in the latest Case this sketch challenge.

Here is my card:

I really struggled with this card.  I pulled out the striped pattern paper. I really wanted to use the pint jar stamp so I pulled the colors from the paper for my flowers. My original thought was  to place the jar on a banner type shape.  However, I stamped the jar too far down on the paper to do that.  So thus the scallop rectangle.  I originally wanted the striped paper to cover the entire card front.  For some reason this seemed too busy.  I'm still not sure I'm loving the layout of the card but I do love how the jar turned out.  I used 7 different stamp sets to complete this card.  The flowers I used were short stems so I used the balloon strings slightly curved to make stems. I used glossy accents on the jar to give it some shine like real glass.  I also put a little bit of watercolor pencil inside the jar to make it look like water and a little under the jar for a shadow.  A little bit of jute string finishes off the card.

Papertrey Ink Create Along With Us January 2016

As always one of my goals for 2016 is to create and blog more. I have been in the process of reorganizing some of my craft room so stay tuned for post about my organizational redo soon. I find the best way to get into the habit of creating more is to enter challenges. So Papertrey Ink (my favorite stamp company) is having a challenge in which you create something based on one of the designer's creations. They call it Create Along With Us. Click HERE for more details.

I was inspired by Laurie Willison's cute little tag.

I just love the colors she used in her house.  I decided to mimic those colors in my own card.  I was also inspired by Betsy Veldman's amazing card set.

Well inspired by might be stretching the truth a bit!  I thought her design was soo great that I should just completely copy it!

The only thing I really changed is the sentiment.  I also added a brad to the the center that has been woefully neglected.  (Another goal trying to use some of the items I have accumulated!).  I dabbed on some Wink of Stella to the petals to give them a little shimmer.

Thanks for looking!  Supplies listed below:
