Card A Day: With Faith and Store Closes Today..last chance at 70% off!

It's time again for me to design a card for the Card A Day blog.  The theme this week is "With Faith".  I purposely chose to sign up for this theme because I don't do many religious inspired cards.  I don't know why...there are many inspiring words in Scripture that are more than appropriate for card makers.  Patter Cross participates in a Scripture challenge.  You can find more details about that and see her beautiful cards on her blog Triple the Scraps.  I used her blog for a starting point on my card since I didn't have any religious stamp sets to use.

I used my Card Base 5 file.   This file is wonderful!  It allowed me to cut scraps of paper and have them all lined up perfectly thanks to the precision of my KNK.  It's also great for mass producing cards because you can cut all 4 shapes out of 4 different patterns and just place them in the appropriate spots to make 4 different cards.  I used Staz on ink to stamp the ribbon with Papertrey ink stamps from Year Round Puns.  I was thrilled to find some fibers that matched the colors in these papers.  They were a fun accent that I haven't used in a while!  It feels great to dig up some old embellishments to put them to use. If you click on the photo you should be able to read the scripture I printed with my home printer but if not here it is:

Hebrews 13:5 "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'"

Sometimes it's nice to be reminded that we are very blessed in this world and that if we are having troubles that seem insurmountable that God will help you through them.

Sadly the day has come to close my store.  As of midnight EST Aug. 31, 2013 (tonight) the store will no longer exist!  I'm not sure when I'll have my files into a new store (please follow my blog to keep up to date on my whereabouts)  so cash in now at the best prices I have ever offered by going shopping here before it's too late!  Note: the discount won't show up until you add items to your cart..however it is easy to remove items so don't worry.  Please download your files immediately upon purchase because they won't be available after the 31st.

I have added many new files to the store over the past week so if you checked  in the beginning of the month you may want to stop by again.   Thanks soo much for all your support over the years!  I love designing and all the friends I have met by doing so!     I loved seeing all your inspiring projects using my files.  I do hope you'll continue to share your projects with me!  Yeppers..you guys are one talented bunch!   If you are ever in a bind and need something designed..please contact me even if I don't currently have files in a store.  I do hope you'll stay in touch so I won't say goodbye!

We are having a yard sale tomorrow.  Praying it doesn't rain!  I'd better get some sleep..early birds get the sales!

PTI Tea staining techniue

Goodness this weekend just got away from me!  I wanted to participate in Papertrey Ink's Stamp-a-Faire event but only got one project done!

I started by cutting tags from my Tags Galore file.  I stamped them with Papertrey Ink's Fancy Flourishes stamp set.  (Haven't used this stamp in a long time..forgot how wonderful it is!).  Then embossed with white embossing powder.

I just loved Betsy's video on staining using Kool-aide.  I bought a value pack of generic Kool Aide that had 4 flavors included and the colors I got were just plain horrible!  I ended up with two reds that worked okay but the yellow didn't dye at all and the grape was more grey in color.  I was deeply disappointed!  I love Betsy's colors so I think I will buy what she did and try again in the future.  So....

I had some tea and got that out to tea stain the tags.  This worked quite well.  The watercolor paper I cut the tags out of didn't warp at all.  It's hard to tell in the photo but I also stained some tulle.  I layered this with my flowers (QK die).  If you click on the photo you might be able to see the tulle better.

I stamped the white card base with a script stamp from Hero Arts.  I think if I duplicate this card I will tea stain the base or use a less stark white.  I really love the tea stain color with a touch of soft pink as an accent color.  So I used PTI's sweet blush cardstock to cut my flowers and border.  The border is from my Card Base 1 file.   A little bit of gold accented fiber finished the card.

If you would like to purchase any of the files I used please click on the previews below.  Hurry as my files are 70% off until Aug 31st.  Gotta love great quality files at rock bottom prices!

Thanks for stopping by.  Please come back again!

PTI August 2013 blog hop

It's time again for the Papertrey Ink monthly blog hop.  I wasn't sure I would have a chance to squeeze in an entry but I'm here just in time!

PTI graciously gave us not only the color scheme but also the sketch to follow making it very easy to come up with a quick card.  Check out this post for more color schemes and sketches.

I have to say I didn't think this color scheme really would work at all.  The red didn't seem to fit in but once I put it all together I love it!  I used PTI's Extra large rick rack die in place of the straight strips.  The sentiment is from PTI's Signature Series Dress Form for the sentiment.  I felt I needed some type of focal point to place where the strips cross.  I chose one of the butterflies from my 3-D butterfly file.  I just love how much dimension postioning both parts of the file brings.  Rhinestones on the body of the butterflies finishes up the card.

If you would like to purchase my file please click on the preview below.  It's a steal at only $1.05 for the rest of Aug.  (The sale price will show up when you place the item in your cart)

Don't forget my whole store is 70% off until the end of Aug.  So go shopping here before it's too late.

Well my kids started school last Thursday.  I cut letters out of vinyl depicting their grade level and adhered them to the apples.  This is the second year I have done this.  I really like how they turned out and will continue the tradition (as long as I have white vinyl that is!).  I can't believe I have a 1st and 4th grader.  Where has time gone?  The kids didn't go to school on Friday.  They were doing construction all day Thursday while the kids were there.  Many parents felt it wasn't a safe environment for their kids.  Our son came home coughing and had a migraine.  Both kids have asthma so construction dust simply isn't good for them to be around.  Around 7:00 Friday morning the message came through that school was cancelled.  They promised to work a lot over the weekend.  Hope they kept their word!  How in the world can teacher's teach and students learn while construction workers are drilling and such!

Thanks for stopping by.  Please come back again!  Have a splendid week!

Card A Day blog post: Milestone Birthdays and Color Throw Down

Hi!
I'm excited to tell you I have become a designer for Card A Day blog.  In case you don't know what that is it's a website where various designers post one card each day based on the assigned theme.  There is sooo much inspiration and challenges too.  You've got to check it out Here!  Oh but before you leave please take a peek at what I created first!

The theme this week is Milestone Birthdays.  So...I checked out my birthday list and as luck would have it I have a cousin who is turning 16 next month.  I can't believe she is that old...I remember her as a little baby..where has time gone?

This cousin as a child was very rambunctious and didn't sit still for a minute...so when I thought of her images of a bouncy/ dangling 16 popped into my head.  Weird I know but I ran with the idea and I think it looks wonderfully whimsical.  So I started with my Card Base 4 file.  Than dangled the number 16 from my Number Charms file using baker's twine.

It's hard to tell in the photo but I turned my paper number charms into acrylic glitter charms using my turning paper into metal technique.  You can find the tut here.  I cut the number out of plain white paper then covered with a layer of stickles.  Let dry.  Layered on many coats of UTEE then when the last coat of UTEE was still hot I sprinkled on some ultra fine glitter and heated it a little more.  Once cool you have a super sparkly faux acrylic charm! (Bonus..glitter is sealed in the UTEE so it doesn't flake off)   Trust me this photo just doesn't do the glitter justice..it shines in real life!  I can't wait to try this with different colors of glitter!

I got the gorgeous color scheme from the current Color Throwdown Challenge

Aren't those colors just gorgeous!  I just love color challenges takes the guess work out of where to begin.  Stamps also make it easy to abide by the color scheme.  I used Papertrey Ink's Background Basics:  Chevron Stripes Stamp set to make my chevron paper strips.  I just love chevrons!  Can't wait to try them in masculine colors!  Flowers and gems finish up the card.

My store is closing soon and I'm not sure when I'll have my files into a new store (please follow my blog to keep up to date on my whereabouts)  so cash in now at the best prices I have ever offered by going shopping here before it's too late!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you'll come back again!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Moving Sale 70% off all my designs!

I have sad news!  Visual Designs by Chris will  be closing at the end of this month.  I am very disappointed that this store is closing.  Chris is a wonderful boss and I will miss working for her.  So...now is your chance to get all my designs at rock bottom prices.  Click here to go shopping and get some super steals!  I am NOT giving up on designing...I will be moving my files elsewhere..but right now I don't know where the wind will take me.  So please subscribe to my blog so you can find out about my new home! Oh and I plan on participating in challenges and continuing to craft even if I don't find a home for my files immediately.  So new posts will still be continuing on this blog.

Gosh where has the Summer gone?  I had soo many things I wanted to do fun with the kids and now time is running out!  Every Summer this happens not matter how determined I am to slow time down..it just doesn't happen.  Anyone else sad to see the new school year begin?  School starts Aug. 22nd.  When does it start in your neck of the woods? My daughter starts soccer practice on Wednesday already too.  Gymnastics begins in Sept and I'm sure Scouts will start soon too.  Don't get me wrong I love that the kids are active in many activities and they truly enjoy them..but I just hate the juggle of homework, supper, and extra curriculars.

One of my goals for the Fall is to blog more. Not just about the cards I create but also scrapbook layouts.  I want to post more photos of the kids.  Maybe share some recipes.  I am really into homemade cleaning products lately too so maybe I'll share some of them.  So let me hear from you...would you like me to blog about any of those topics or do you find them blah! Would you like me to bring back the Techniques series...anything you want me to add to the Mission Organization series?

Gotta hit the hay!  Finally getting reunited with the kids tomorrow.  They spent some time with my parents and I miss them.  It was nice being husband and wife instead of Mommy and Daddy for a while though!  It was a nice break!

Goodnight!  Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again!  I look forward to hearing your comments!

PTI MIM, Mojo Monday, Moxie Fab and Colour Q

I'm back again with another challenge card.  Loving these challenges!  They really motivate me to craft!

So I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Make it Monday#128 Stamping Random Background Patterns

ETA: Also entering this in the Birthday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

I used Papertrey Ink Mehndi Medallion stamp set to make my pattern paper. I have to say it was very hard for me to be random as the video showed. But..once I relaxed and let stamps overlap..it turned out to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to try it again!  I have a hard time making masculine cards.  I hope this doesn't look too girly!  I did add a little bit of glitter marker to the "18" charms.  Really wanted to add bold, glitzy glitter glue but had to resist!  I added a gem to the center of the yellow medallion on the sentiment too to bring in the lighter blue color.   I really do like this color combo and that cell phone cover is actually pretty cool!  Other stamps I used were also from Papertrey ink: Mat Stack 2 stamps and die, "Happy" sentiment is from Happy Hexagons and birthday is from Paper Tray.  The yellow paper was stamped with Background Basics: Spots and Dots. I used my cutting file called Number Charms for the 18.  If you would like to purchase it please click on the preview below: (It's a steal at 60 cents for the entire month of Aug)

Thanks for stopping by...please come again!

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #127 Double Backgrounds

Yipee!  I got to craft, make a card for a friend who is under the weather and participate in challenges at the same time!  Got to love that!  Let's see I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Make it Monday 256
oops...missed the deadline for this challenge..Aug 2nd!

Papertrey Ink Make it Monday #127 Double Backgrounds

Color Throwdown #253

I used my Scalloped Card file for a majority of the card.  Some of the  stamps I used were from Papertrey Ink.  The bee and sentiment is from the Honey Bee set and the flourish is from Happy Day set.  You can't tell in the photo but I added some sparkle to the bee with Spica Copic glitter makers. The background stamps were Paintable Grid by Prima and then overlaid that with Stampin' Ups Itty Bitty backgrounds for the double background technique.

I have sad news.  My store is closing but I will be moving my files to another store in the future.  I will let you know more info at a later date.  Anyway....I decided to have a blowout sale and offer all my files at 70% off for the entire month of Aug.  I will be added new files so please check back throughout the month.  Click here to go shopping.

If you would like to purchase the file I used for my card.  You can do so by clicking the preview below.  It is a great deal..only 99cents!

Thanks for stopping by!  I am having tons of fun participating in these challenges so I hope to do more in the next couple days.  It's soo stress relieving to craft.  I don't know how I could live without it!
