Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #274: Pattern Play With Die Cut Silhouettes

This week's make it monday at Papertrey Ink involves using dies to cut silhouettes out of patterned paper. Check out Lexi's wonderful video showing how to do this technique HERE.

My daughter and I were reading a chapter book.  It was time for bed so we had to stop reading.  I asked her to get a book marker so we can mark where we left off.  She said she didn't have any.   What?!  I thought for sure she had several she had picked up at the library.  Anyway, I decided to use this challenge to make her a book marker.  Two to be exact!

My daughter loves blue!  Seriously all forms of blue..navy blue, aqua mist, teal, royal blue.  As long as it's blue she likes it!  We bought practically all blue clothes for school this year.  So when various school activities required other colors to be worn we were at a loss!  So I decided to use some very old and neglected Creative Memories papers paired with PTI's bitty dot for my book markers.  My daughter also loves butterflies so I used dies from PTI's color pop butterflies to use for my silhouettes.  I knew I couldn't add much dimension to these since they were being tucked into a book.  That was hard for me...I love dimension and wanted to make those butterflies pop off the book mark a little.  I also used some unloved fibers for the top.  I cut the letters out of the teal book marker and then placed different pattern papers behind each negative part of the letters.  I adhered the letter centers to the front to make the letter more recognizable.  I was able to make a second book marker by gluing the positive part of the letters to patterned paper.  Click on photo to enlargeso you can see the pattern better.   I corner rounded the corners also. I used a black marker to

To make the book markers more durable I laminated them.  Hopefully these will last a long time!  My daughter is sick with a cold and a fever.  I did take her to the doc but they said there wasn't any need for antibiotics at this time.  Despite being sick though she was thrilled with these book markers and gave me a big old hug.  She even wanted me to take a photo of her holding them!

Poor little girl..her nose is soo red even though she is using lotion tissues.  She will be staying home tomorrow.  She actually likes school so she isn't happy she is missing that and gymnastics.  I do hope she feels better soon.   I hate it when the kids are sick.  I wish I could wave a wand and instantly make them better!
