Papertrey Ink Februrary Blog Hop Challenge

Inspiration

Above is the photo we must draw inspiration from in order to make a project to complete the latest PTI blog hop challenge. I loved the soft pink rose and the different shade of green so that was my color focus.

I also used a wonderful sketch  from design team Kay Miller posted here in the December 2015 newsletter.  I just loved that plate in the photo as it kind of grounded the whole collection of elements and brought everything together so I that is why I sought out a sketch with a circle.

Here is my card:

I decided to instead of cutting out a circle to stitch one using embroidery floss.  After looking at this photo though I probably should have used a larger circle.  I still love the effect and hopefully will remember to do stitching on my cards more in the future.  In order to get a very soft rose I stamped it in my lightest three pinks.
Layer 1 PTI Sweet Blush
Layer 2 Momento Angel Pink
Layer 3 PTI Lovely Lady.
I stamped each of these colors twice so I would get some contrast between the layers.
I added the harvest berry leaves in the two colors of green shown in the photo.  To finish off the floral arrangement I added little 3 flower clusters which are actually part of a nostalgic button stamp set.  I heat embossed them in white.  I used two colors of sharpie fine line markers to draw in the stems.  First a green but then I wrote over them in grey to tone down the bright green color a bit since the flower stems are in the background.  It's hard to tell in the photo but I added a small pink dot in the center of each flower with a sparkly Copic glitter marker.  The largest flower is popped up for dimension.  Thanks to my MISTI I did 5 of these cards in no time.   I think the stitching took longer than the stamping!

Papertrey Ink Make it Monday #239 Customizing Patterned Paper

This week's Make it Monday Challenge at Papertrey  Ink involves customizing patterned paper.  Lizzie demonstrates just how to do this in a great video.   Check it out here.
I don't have a lot of masculine cards in my stash so I knew I wanted to use this challenge to make a masculine birthday card. I had this Lotus paper pack by Amy Butler.  It has lots of floral prints in it so I pulled out the two masculine prints and went about making my card.  I pulled the blue and green colors from the striped paper to choose my ink.  I stamped little tiny dots from Papertrey Ink's first stamp set called Paper Tray.  I used the bulls-eye and tiny dot stamps to stamp rolls of circles within the paper printed circles.  I added a little distress ink to give some depth to the die cut balloon ad added an string to the balloon to enhance the blues in my card.

Papertrey Ink Create Along With Us

Whew!  I don't think I have ever posted so many times in one day!  Sorry if your e-mail box got flooded by my posts!  I have one last challenge to share.

Papertrey Ink encouraged us to pick a card from one of the design team's fabulous creations and do our version of the card.  I picked Laurie Wilson's fun rainbow watercolor card. You can see more on her blog here.

I didn't have her card in front of me to look at.  I also don't have much experience in watercoloring.  I used watercolor pencils.  This was only my second time using them but it was soo much fun!

I prefer Laurie's wider bands of colors and will do that next time.  This card was super quick to pull together!  I cut PTI's butterfly coverplate out of pearl card stock  and attached a quick sentiment from PTI's Wishes Come True stamp set heat embossed in white.

Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary Paper Crafting Alphabet Challenge

This challenge was soo fun!  An alphabet was posted listing different techniques for each alphabet.  You use the letters in your name (first or last) to determine what you must use in your card.

I was inspired by a lovely card by Kimberly.  You can see her beautiful creation here.

Since my name is Shelly and you had to use at least the first three letters in your name I had to do the following on my card:
S-Stitching (used embroidery floss and my sew easy to stitch the zig zag on the vellum tag)
H-Heat Embossing (heat embossed sentiment in white..probably should have used black to stand out more)
E-Emboss resist (used stencil to add versamark ink to the triangles then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Added distress ink over top of the stenciled image using waterbrush.  The embossed triangles resisted the ink)

Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary Saturday Snail Mail Challenge and Colour Q #328

This challenge involves creating a thank you card to send to the wonderful people in the warehouse at Papertrey Ink.  They really do package stuff with care and nothing arrives damaged or broken.

I was inspired by a fantastic card by Karolyn Loncon.  You can see her lovely creation here.
I was simply amazed at how quick this card came together!  (This is a great scrapbuster card!) I sought out the latest colour Q challenge for my color combo.
I don't use gold that often but I'm not sure why.  I love the regal element it adds to a card.  I simply punched some 1 1/2" and rounded opposite corners using the 1 2 3 Punchboard.  I have other corner rounders but I have found this easiest to use for perfectly rounded corners.   I used glitter gold embossing powder for the sentiment and butterfly (btw the butterfly is from the PTI butterfly coverplate..I simply cut the middle butterfly free from it's frame).  If you are going to do a glittered/embossed die cut like this I would suggest covering a square of paper in versamark ink and then sprinkling powder on before heat embossing the entire square.  This is much easier than trying to emboss an intricate die cut.

Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary Color Pop Fortune Teller Challenge and Case This Sketch #159

This challenge was cute!  It involved printing out a fortune teller (we also know it as a cootie catcher) and by following the instructions provided the fortune teller would provide you with a color scheme to use.  My daughter loved it soo much that she did it with each family member even though they had no desire to make a card.  Time is winding down as all challenge entries must be posted by 7 am tomorrow morning but you can still download the fortune teller to have any time you get stuck for a color combo.  Click here.
I  decided to make this challenge really easy since the colors were already provided for me I sought out the latest Case This Sketch Challenge to help me complete my card.

The colors the fortune teller provided me were Berry Sorbet, Aqua Mist and Summer Sunrise.  My wonderful MISTI and PTI's Plaid Builder stamp set made the background appear in no time! I used black fun foam to cut the die cut which added dimension quickly.  Sure beats cutting several layers of cardstock and gluing them together!

Papertrey Ink 9th Anniversary Sampler Square Challenge

This challenge involved using a different technique on 9 1 1/2" squares.  They were to be mounted on a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" square card.  I really struggled with this one.  I had a whole arsenal of techniques stored on Pinterest but how to make all these techniques work on one card was a mystery!
My 8 year old daughter fell in love with PTI's Baker's Dozen stamp set.  So much so that she used the money she got from Christmas to help purchase it.  It's a good thing she did because it really is perfect for doing techniques and most of the cupcakes are sized to fit the squares although some are too tall.  I also struggled with the color scheme so I decided to attempt a rainbow theme.   Below are the techniques I used along with any videos that show how to do them.

Pink-paper piecing (I brushed a little of white Wink of Stella glitter brush maker on the paper also)
Red-white pencil outlining
Orange-Heat embossing with dye ink (Coat stamp with versamark ink then immediately coat in dye ink stamp then apply clear embossing powder and heat)
Yellow-Dry emboss (I first heat embossed the cupcake with heat white embossing powder then I dry embossed with a dot embossing folder.  I used a bone folder to smooth out dots within the cupcake then colored inside the embossed lines with a versamark pen to make the cupcake a little darker than the background)
Green-Distress Ink Backgrounds using stencil and pearl mist (also heat embossed sentiment)
Blue-Copic Coloring
Turquoise-Watercoloring with Watercolor Pencil (first time watercoloring...can't wait to try these pencils out on something again it was soo much fun!)
Purple-Distress Ink Lifting
Grey-Coloring Embossed Images with Copics (tried to include all the colors used previously in this one cupcake
