MIM#83, PDCC#149 and Pirates!

Hi,
It seems like it's been ages since I created something!  We've had a rough time lately with sick kids and such.  So it feels great to finally get crafty again!  I decided to join two challenges with one creation!

First up Papertrey Ink issued a challenge for us to go to the store and browse the card aisle for inspiration.  Melissa made up a wonderful card from one she purchased.  Check out her video here.  I haven't bought a card (except bulk Christmas cards) in years.  I was amazed at how nice some of the cards were.  I found plenty that truly inspired me.  I chose the one below because it seemed the easiest to duplicate.  Sorry about the poor photo it was taken with my cell phone.  I'm too cheap to buy the card!

So now I knew what design I was going to use but what colors?  The Play Date Cafe to the rescue!  They are hosting a challenge with great colors.  You can check out the deets here.  Oops!  Looks like I'm too late to enter this challenge it is done!

So thus my card was born:

It went together quite quickly.  I had stamped this background before in different colors so I knew it exactly which stamps to use.  I also used the word "Birthday" from my Infinity Card:  Birthday cutter file.  I think this style of card would mak a great little gift set stamped in different color combos.

If you would like to purchase my file please click on the photo below.  This is one of those cards who panels just keep opening and it never really ends.  The birthday word I used is in the bottom picture along with the word "Happy".  All the items shown cake, mouse, balloon, present, candles are included in the file.

Supplies:
Cutting files:  Shelly's Art Infinity Card:  Birthday
Stamps: Papertrey Ink:  Rosie Posie (daisy), Turning a New Leaf, Paper Tray (smaller flower and center), Honey Bees (happy sentiment), Round and Round Anniversary set (butterfly)
Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink:  Aqua Mist
Ink:  Papertrey Ink:  Aqua Mist, Berry Sorbet and Momento Lulu Lavender
Rick rack, rhinestone and ribbon from my stash

On Wednesday the kids were asked to dress as pirates for school.  They were asked not to go out and buy things to make up there costumes.  Fortunately, we had two eye patches from training Tyler's lazy eye when he was little.  Daddy had some handkerchiefs and knew how to tie it onto their heads.  Although Tyler watched Daddy do it once and he was able to do it himself instantly!  We had some striped material leftover from the church quilts which served as sashes.  Adoree wanted a girl skull on her shirt so I found a coloring page of a skull with a bow.  I printed it on sticker paper and she colored it multi-colored.  It looked great stuck on her shirt but unfortunately didn't stick well by the end of the day the skull was curly?!  LOL!  The kids had fun being pirates for a day!

Okay I've gotta go make supper.  Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again!

You did a super job on this challenge, Shelly. The card design could lend itself to many different focal sets and colour schemes as well. Thanks for the inspiration.

Your pirates are the cutest!

Lovely MIM card. Yours is such a fair few notches above the store bought one, that's for sure. Makes you really appreciate this ever so handy creative hobby of ours. Fab job!
