We're back from Myrtle Beach and a wonderful firefly card

NOTE:  Lots of photos...sorry!
Howdy,
The in-laws go to Myrtle Beach every year and they have been asking us to go with them every year.  We took Tyler when he was about 2 but they wanted to see Adoree's reaction to the beach.   So we finally agreed to go this year.  We just returned on Thursday and fortunately didn't have any problems with the weather or traffic.  I will share some photos with you in a minute.  But first I want to share with you a wonderful interactive card by Creative Design Team Member Johanne.

Is that cute or what!  Johanne used my Cutie Firefly file on a stair step card.  The greeting actually slides back and forth.  I have always wanted to make one of these type cards and seeing Johanne's makes me want to make one even more.  Here is what Johanne had to say about her card.  The details she puts in her cards make them extra special!

Cutting Files:
                Cutie Firefly by Shelly Sweigart
Side Step Card from Jan Bryson
Spinner & Sun Tag from Johanne Larouche
Papers:
Breaking free and 29th street market from My mind's Eye
                Gypsy Curry from Bo Bunny
                Savannah from Scenic Route
Stamp:
CHR 026 A from The Stamp Bam
Other supplies:
                Embossing powder -  moonstone
                Distress Ink - Brown corduroy
                Antique silver brads

I resized the files for the firefly and made it using mostly printed and plain cardstock.  I made the wing from vellum, inking the edges, painting with Twinkling H20, and hand embossing them, pressing lightly so it didn't lose the transparency.  I glued the firefly to  the card with double thickness of pop dot.

To make the card, I used Jan Bryson Side Step Card but modified it to get only two steps and resizing it to my liking.  I made the spinner section from instructions on the net just like the following link:
I made a pocket on the second step to insert a tag for my sentiment.  I printed the sentiment for this tag and also for the spinner.  I stamped and embossed the top of the tag.

Inside greeting translation:
A wish for you
May your birthday be so nice.  May it be enjoyable, relax, and fun.
Happy Birthday!

I actually have my cutie bugs file collection on sale for 30% off until the end of this month (August).  If you would like to purchase it..please click on the preview.

Okay now for those vacations photos I promised you.  I was very nervous at how the kids would do on the long ride to Myrtle Beach.   It is at least a 10 hour drive.  So we decided to drive 6 hours and get a hotel room then drive the remaining 4 the next day.  It worked out really well that way.  I packed many travel activities and also wrapped up small gifts for the kids to unwrap every so often along the way.  They really enjoyed that.

I honestly never ever thought we'd buy the kids hand held "video games"...but we did end up buying Tyler and Ipod touch and Adoree a Leapster Explorer.   I have to say it was a wonderful investment.   On the ipod Tyler was able to watch his favorite Spongebob episodes and Farily Odd Parents videos plus play games and take photos.  We do have video players for the car but both kids have to watch the same movie so when Adoree wanted to watch something Tyler didn't want to then he could just use his ipod.  I do believe this kept him occupied the majority of the trip as he didn't really play much else.

Adoree doesn't like riding in the car...now she has gotten better since she is older but she is a child that constantly likes someone to play with her and interact with her plus she loves dancing.  Being confined to a car seat is very hard for her.  We were hoping she would fall asleep for a little while at least.   She did fall asleep but waited until we were 10 min from the hotel!  She did this both days.  Now this photo was taken on the way home.   She was sooo tired at that point that she actually did sleep for a few hours.  Oh and see that cookie sheet on her lap....best idea ever.  She used this not only for playing but also for eating snacks.  I won't go on any long car rides without this sheet again!

Above was the view from our hotel room.  We stayed at Long Bay Resort.  There was a small deck in which you could step out and see this view.  Adoree and Tyler loved it.  Adoree instead of saying she was going out on the deck..she would say "I'm going to the view".

Here is the photo of the kids with the inlaws.  Poor Tyler every time he takes a photo that involves a sunny day he looks like this.  Adoree looks pretty happy though.  We had to beg her to pose for this.   She absolutely hated the waves.  She doesn't have any fear of the water but the waves were kinda choppy and her being soo small I think she probably thought they were going to carry her away.  I very rarely see her scared so this was a new experience for me.   She held my hand with a death grip every time I took her near the water.  Tyler actually does have a fear of the water but we were very proud of him as he actually enjoyed the waves.

There were oodles of pools at the hotel.  This pool was great because the water was very low and the kids could go as they please.   Tyler loved this submarine as he figured out he could control the water coming out of some of the spouts by turning the handles.  He was in heaven!

Oh my gosh!  Look at this photo of Adoree.  She looks soo grown up like she is posing for a magazine or something!  Where has my baby gone!  I can't believe she will be attending preschool in Sept.  This is the same pool the submarine was in.

I think I've bombarded you with enough photos for now!  I didn't take a ton of photos but hubby took photos with his camera too.  I think I'm going to do one single scrapbook of Myrtle Beach.  That way the kids can fight over the album later in life!  LOL!  Truly I realized how important scrapbooking is when I got our the photos of the trip to Myrtle Beach when we took Tyler to show Adoree.   Tyler loved looking at the photos and Adoree loved seeing what she had to look forward to.

I'll probably share some of my favorite aquarium photos and the Children's Museum sometime soon.  So please come back!  Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy your Sunday!  I am praying for everyone in hopes Irene doesn't cause you too much damage.  Keep safe!

Papertrey Ink MIM #27 and gorgeous CDT project

Howdy,
Once again I am posting at the last minute before the Papertrey ink Make It Monday challenge deadline is up.  Good thing we are on the same time zone!  Oh well better late then never right....now on with the show!

First off I must apologize for the bad photo...I prefer taking photos in daylight but there isn't any of that right now!  LOL!  This is based on my sketch that I designed for my sketch challenge at Paperthreads this month.   I like the card overall but I did make some boo boos I had to cover up.  If I make this again I would only put three pennants under the ribbon and make the ribbon shorter.  I'd only do one cluster of leaves instead of two....but all in all it was a very fast card.  I used my newest flower file...loopy flower...for the focal point.  More about that later.   It's hard to tell in the photo but I colored the orange flowers with Copic glitter pens for a little sparkle.  I also misted the loopy flower with pearl glimmer mist.  I  have to say I do not have a steady hand and getting the stripes on the ribbon straight and even was very hard.  Nicole made it look soo easy!  You can see her technique video here.

Papertrey Ink Stamps:
Turning a New Leaf , Mat Stack Two Collection  (pennant border under ribbon and sentiment), Honey Bees (orange flowers)

Turn this.....

into this....

That is exactly what I did with my Loopy Flower file.   I am not loving the paper swatch above.  It is quite abstract and as much as I'd love to be hip and modern...I'm just not.  I would only use this paper in small bits and I have a ton of it.   So in order to use some of it and other papers I don't care for I created this flower.  You can easily use it with patterned paper that has a white back to it because the white for the most part gets hidden.  It is very fun to cut the flower and roll up to see what emerges.  So why not make use of paper stash by buying my file here.   The file is on sale the rest of this month.

Johanne, a member of my Creative Design Team,  did an awesome job with my sketch challenge by creating this gorgeous card.

The inside is equally as stunning...

Here is what Johanne had to say about her card:

"The Rolled Up flower file was perfect for this great sketch also from Shelly.I used plum embossing powder on the flower for the center and accent on the petals and also for the sentiment. I applied Twinkling H20 on the petal of the flower to give it a touch more color and some shine. I used dry embossing on the leaves to give a 3D effect , went over my marks with distress ink to enhance them and sprayed with glimmer mist.  Embossing powder was also used on the contour of the other elements of the card.  The paper is Jasmyne Twilight from Bo-Bunny again!!!  (I love that paper and bought so many.  I have to use it.)  The stamp for the sentiment is from Bonnidee.  For the inside of my card, I stamped the butterfly (Heather Stamping Haven) on vellum using embossing powder once again and colored it with Twinkling H20.  I stamped it twice and cut the second layer a bit smaller following the design and glued it over the first layer. The dotted lines were made with a stencil (Scallop Swirl TCW95 from The Crafter's Workshop).

Translation of the sentiment inside: Today is the beginning of a new year.  We, your friends, want to be part of this celebration and want to let you know that we love you very much.  Happy Anniversary!"

I am blowed away with Johanne's card!  I am mesmerized by the techniques she used.  I so want some Twinkling H2Os now!  Isn't that paper to die for!  I can see why Johanne bought lots of it!  Johanne sure does have an eye for detail doesn't she!?!  Anyone would be very lucky to get a card from her!  If you would like to roll up your own flowers please purchase my file by clicking on the preview below.
You know I never thought I'd see the day when Tyler and Adoree actually got along well and didn't fight.  It has happened quite often lately though.  While we were working on the porch Tyler and Adoree had to figure out how to occupy themselves.  Miraculously they did...well some of the time!  Tyler was being such a great big brother.  He willing (with out any prompting whatsoever from me) pulled Adoree up and down the sidewalk in the wagon Pop Pop had made them.  He volunteered to do it several times and Adoree enjoyed it!  She was hooting and hollering soo much the neighbor came out to make sure she wasn't hurt and crying!

Tyler is such a good boy!  Even when his sister doesn't treat him soo nicely..he still likes to play with her.  There are days I wish we had only one kid as it's soo much easier to meet the needs of one but it's times like these that I am happy to have two...a boy and a girl...the perfect family!

Okay it's time for bed!  We are trying to get the kids used to a school schedule again as they will be starting here soon.  That means I must get used to getting up early too!  Adoree is usually the first up sometime between 7 and 7:30 now and so I don't normally rise and shine (umm...I'm not a morning person and never "shine"...LOL) until she gets up.  Tyler will be going to a different school this year and may have to get the bus earlier.   Adoree will be going to preschool for 2 hours a day 3 days a week after Labor Day.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get her into the morning class.  So we'll have to eat lunch very early in order to get her to school on time.   Lots of changes coming up this school year.   But....on the plus side I will have a quiet kidless house for a few hours each week!  Yipee!  I love my kids but...also love peace and quiet!  LOL!

Goodnight!  Thanks for stopping by to see me!  I hope you have a fabulous week!

Creative Cupcakes and Adoree's new bed

Howdy,

My creative design team has been having lots of fun with my cupcake card file.  I can't wait to show you what fab creations they have made.

First up we have a wonderful card by CDT member Johanne.

Here is what Johanne had to say about her cupacke:
Info:
This card was made from Shelly's Art Cupcake Card file. I made it larger than the file. I applied distress ink - shabby shutters- on every section. The paper for the icing was Hepburn from Memory Keepers. I embossed it with the Cuttlebug and covered those embossed parts with Stickles Frosted Lace.  I added silver brads to imitate dragees. The cherry was embossed with red embossing powder. I duplicated the icing and the cherry, mirroring it and applying it on the other side.  It gave me a fully decorated cupcake and I could add more sentiment. I cut the base and printed my message afterward using the cut & print technique.

Translation:
A cupcake made from the best:  health, happiness, magic moments & a bit of crazy time.  Happy Birthday dear Granddaughter.

Health, Fun, Love, Happiness, Peace, Friendship, Magic, Success.

I love all the details Johanne added to this card.   I especially like the embossing then added stickles on top.  This makes her paper look as if she bought it at a specialty shop.  I will definitely be casing this technique in the future.  I never think to emboss patterned papers but adore the look!  How creative of Johanne to make the card double sided too.  You could add a gift card to one side and sentiment to the other.
Next up we have an equally creative card by CDT member Kelly.

Here is what Kelly had to say about her card:

This card features 3 files from Shelly's Art (Cupcake Card, Pennant Border Set (coming soon to my store) & Tags Galore). For the background, I used my Scallops & Lines embossing folder from Sizzix. I inked over the raised image with a French Blue inkpad. The two blue cupcakes are embossed with the D'vine Swirls folder and I used the French Blue ink on them as well. The brown cupcake is embossed with the Mesh folder and inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I added a blue rhinestone to the tag. There is also lots of pen stitching added to the card. The Make a Wish sentiment is cut from vinyl. The rest of the sentiments are from K Andrew's Food for Thought stamp set.

I love how she reduced the size of the cupcakes to allow them to be the focal feature on the front of a standard sized card.  Kelly is great at embossing and this card really shows her skill!  The pen detailing is great as is that tiny rhinestone on the tag!

Now if you'd like to play with my cupcakes too please click on the photo below to purchase the file at 30% off the whole month of August 2011.

Adoree had been sleeping in Tyler's crib which turned into a sleigh bed.  It was starting to sag so we decided Adoree needed a bed of her own.  The only problem was that her room is really small and we couldn't possibly fit a dresser and bed in the room.  So we searched and came across this loft bed and it seemed like the perfect solution.   So we ordered it from Amazon here.  It arrived in three boxes on July 11th.  However, the one box was badly damaged.  So I contacted the company (South Shore Furniture) and posted a complaint.   I informed them that the boxes are about 75lbs and long and bulky so they need more protection when they are packaged.  They sent replacement pieces free of charge and these were encased in several layers of cushioned cardboard and bubblewrap.  So they were perfect!  Adoree was soo excited to finally have her bed put together.

The area where the curtain is open in case you want to put another dresser under there.   However, we thought it would make a great play area.

Look I actually sewed!  Hubby found a fabric place that had fabric matching her quilt and I sewed the curtain.  I am not a sewer in the least and it took me a long time and I even sewed the rod opening shut at one point.  I learned a needle tool for paper piercing is a good seam ripper!  LOL!  So the curtain isn't perfect but Adoree loved it anyway.    We were a little concerned about how high up the bed is but she seems to be doing just fine in it.  Plus her room looks soo much bigger now!  Tyler is loving her curtain area too they play all sorts of games in there.

Once again it is lunch time so I must say good bye!  I hope to participate in Papertrey Ink's latest make it Monday challenge so be on the lookout for that post soon.  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a good weekend!
