I'm proud to announce a new member to my Creative Design Team. Caroline Stedman has agreed to be a part of my team.  Yeah!  Those of you who are familiar with Paperthreads and the forum are probably thinking Caroline..who is that!?!  Well she is better known as Aussie Caz!  I'm sooo happy to have this talented lady from down under on my team!  As I told her  she is "well-rounded" dibbling in all types of papercrafts and also digital scrapbooking including hybrid techniques.   So I'm sure she will be a great asset to my very talented team!  Caz shared a small bio about herself along with a photo check it out below.

"I am a SAHM to one very adorable boy, 14yo, and a Mum to four fantastic girls who are not living at home, 26yo, 25yo, 23yo and 21yo. I am married to my soul mate, Gary. We live in a rented farmhouse in rural New South Wales, Australia.

I have been scrapping since I was a kid, but recently discovered Digital Scrapbooking about 4 years ago. Then, about 2 years ago, a new world opened up for me. I purchased a Craft Robo and ventured into the world of Personal Cutters. 12 months ago a new Cutter hit the market and I traded in my Craft Robo for a 15inch KNK Maxx. Now I am broke through purchasing all the gorgeous files created by talented Designers that I just have to have, but the fun I am having overrides the expense . I love that this area of creativity joins together all the things I love, Scrapping, my KNK Maxx, Photography and my Computer (without which I am lost). I use PSCS3 and am learning about KNK Studio. "

It's only been a few days since Caz joined the team but she already has a project to share.   She took my Cupcake Card cutter file and turned it into a digitally created whimsically wonderful  card.    I love the little gems on the cupcake icing!  Psst..the sketch this card was based on is designed by Caz too and will be used for my April card sketch challenge on the Paperthreads forum.  I can't wait to try out the sketch myself..it's a great one!  Oh and Caz does designing of digital scrapbooking kits so if you'd like to get a glimpse of her work you can pick up a wonderful floral kit with awesome colors here on her blog. 

 I did manage to make a few cards myself.   Here is one using birthday monkey from Bugaboo Stamps.  I just think this little monkey is soo cute!  I wish I had a sewing machine or time to hand stitch but I had to get this card in the mail quick before it was late.  (One of these days I'll make up some birthday cards ahead of time!)

I used paper paint on the icing to give it more dimension.  Glitter glue was used on the hat, candle and platter.  Silver fabric paint was used on the fork.  Copics were used to color the image as well as the clear dew drops. The paper I used came from Transparent Touches kit #3 for March.  I just love this paper line and this kit!  To see another card made from the kit and more info on how to get your own kits delivered right to your door refer to this previous post. 

I finally got my Easter Tree digital stamp in the store.  I am pretty happy with the way it turned out!  I even drew up a title to match.  Check out the card I made with it below.  I experimented with my new Copic airbrush system for the stamp backgrounds.  I should have chosen more contrasting colors...oh well live and learn!  I do love the soft look it creates and if you used the brush end...it makes wonderful little dots!  I'm looking forward to using it again!

 I just love this stamp mostly because it's so easy to embellish with glitter glue, flocking or flower soft.   I used glitter glue on the eggs but I bet crackle paint would look awesome too!  Can you tell I love my embellishing tools!   This is a based on a Mojo Monday's sketch.

I swear one of these days I will make a card ahead of time and not rush to get it out the door to the mailman!  I so wanted to try one of the joy fold cards I've been seeing lately.  I came across Claudia Rosa's amazing tut for a 6 x 6 card and just had to try it.   I knew I would be making more so to save some time and not to have to measure (I loath measuring!)  I decided to make a cutter file for it.  Psst...you'll find it as a freebie at the end of this post!  Claudia's card is just beautiful and even though I didn't have time to add all the great embellishments she did  I think MIL will still like it!

Technique Tuesdays??: ribbon wreath, tree, 50% off SALE, and freebie

I have been very busy getting ready for Santa.  Actually, I still have Christmas cards to make.  So when the Scal-hints yahoo group shared this video for making a woven ribbon wreath I just had to try it.  I absolutely love it!  Thanks guys and En-May!    It looks more complicated then it really is.  After you get the hang of it..it goes very quickly!

Below is the card I made with a wreath I made on my first try! I was in a hurry once again as this was a teacher's card. My son's last day was Tuesday and we were invited to the party so I was running out the door with this card. Thank goodness I didn't need any envy!

I used iridescent jewels on the wreath and bow but they don't show up very well in the photo.  The holly leaves is an actual metal charm.  However, I tried to mimic the look of the metal charm in the Peace charm.  I cut it out of paper then used my turning paper into metal tut from previous technique Tuesdays posts.  You can find it here if you missed it.  I used my Christmas Word Charms file.  Click on the preview below if you still have Christmas cards to make too!  LOL!    It's a steal at the special price of  $1.15!   Oh I almost forgot for the background paper  I also used my tut for making colored core cardstock found here.

As I mentioned I still have quite a few cards to make!  So I made another card using this technique. This card is based on a great sketch by Mojo Mondays....week 115.

Look closely.  Can you tell this ribbon was the same ivory ribbon I used in my first card example?  I bet you can't!  Want to know how I magically made this green ribbon.  See photo below.

You can use your Copic markers (and possibly Sharpies or Bic) to color white or ivory ribbon.  Use the broad tip of the marker and color slowly.  The ink will absorb into the ribbon and saturate completely even coloring the other side.  It may look a little splotchy at first but it will soak in and even out your color in a few minutes.  (Hmm I think I'll be stocking up on white or ivory ribbon the next time I go to the store!)  The Dew Drops started out clear too and I colored them to be ruby red jems with the Copics.  I just love these markers but I love them even more when I can find other uses for them!

The bow on the green wreath was made using Michelle Hessler's wonderful bow templates.  You can see the video tut on how to make templates and how to use them here.  

Since we are taking about ribbon.  I wanted to share with you a wonderful card my fabulously creative design team member Lisa made for me!  I just love how the ribbon makes the tree!  You can add the trunk and star from my previous "ribbon tree freebie" to make your own ribbon tree. Add some brads for ornaments and you are done!  Super quick but looks great!

Technique Tuesdays: Ribbon Tree, freebie and another teacher's gift

Howdy!
I hope you are all enjoying the holiday seasons. I am listening to Christmas music and it's cold outside. I was watching a movie about Chirstmas in LA. I can't imagine being in shorts and celebrating Christmas. Just doesn't seem like Christmas without having to bundle up!

Okay on to the technique. This is a quick simple one in which you can use up some of those ribbon scraps or ribbons you have too many of! I am demonstrating it being used as a tree but any die cut can be used. Remember you can click on the photo to see it larger.



A few examples for embellishing your tree. OH Psst...I have the tree freebie for you later.



Hints and Tips:
I used plain ivory cardstock for my tree because I knew the ribbons would cover the tree completely. If you are using sheer ribbons keep in mind your base tree will show through.

Scor-Tape or Terrifically Tacky Tape (Red-Line) hold very well just about anything you want to add to your tree. Seed beads look very pretty but know that your base will show through that is why I added them on top of the red ribbon instead of the actually paper tree. You can add glitter in the same way. Just lay down the tape and sprinkle glitter on top. Flower Soft would work too...how about trying candy sprinkles!

Dew drops, pearls, brads, or dots of glitter glue can be added to the tree to act as ornaments.

It is very important you get the glue evenly dispersed on your die cut. If you don't you'll get bumps or loose unattractive ribbons.

You WILL get some fraying. You can apply some fray stop to the ends if that bothers you. Personally, I think it adds to the handmade charm and I actually considered using my scissors to make the ribbon fray and doing a rustic looking tree!

You can use any shape you'd like to as your base die cut...but keep in mind you will have to trim the ribbons off later. More intricate shapes will be harder to trim around.

This method can be used to decorate a photo frame too. Ribbon comes in such a variety of colors and style..it would be very easy to make a frame to match your decor.

You can substitute the ribbon with paper strips. Please note things look better if you vary the widths of the paper strips. This is a fabulous use of paper scraps!

Below is my example of a rather non-traditional looking Christmas tree. I loved this paper and thought the ribbon strips went with it so well. My inking could have been done better though. Oh and sorry about the photo..I didn't have the best lighting when I took it and it was too dark to go outside.



I used my folded photo corners for this card. I love how they fold around the corner of the paper or photo so no glue touches the photos. These are also great for placing photos onto card fronts since the recipient can remove the photo easily when they receive the card. If you'd like to purchase the file click preview below.

I'd also like to share with you another teacher's gift I recently made. My son's teacher asked for hand sanitizer to be donated throughout the year so I decorated the bottle with a penguin. Penguins are their mascots so it is great for a Winter theme for the classroom. After taking the photo so you wouldn't see the glare I applied clear contact paper to my design to protect it from Kindergarten hands! If yours is all paper then decoupage is a great sealer. I just wasn't sure how it would react with the Flower Soft I used on the scarf and hat...or the rhinestones I used on the snowflakes.

Technique Tuesday: Colored core cardstock and a freebie

Hello everyone,
Once again I must apologize...it is not Tuesday but of course it's Wednesday. I won't go on and on..just know that I am sorry! Now on to the technique!

I love the effects of the paper with the colored core that when you sand or tear it the color magically appears. However, I don't have it available in my neck of the woods. I know I could order it but...I have a ton of cardstock so I figured why not try making my own. Keep reading to find out how you can too! It's sooo easy!



Now for some examples. I'll post a completed card using my new colored core cardstock later on in this post.



Hints:

It is very important you don't use white core cardstock. Look at the edge of your cardstock if you see white then you can not use it for this technique. See if you sand white core cardstock the color will be sanded away and you'll be left with the white ebmossing instead of colored. However, if you want white embossing and you don't have any white paper then by all means go ahead and use the white core cardstock.

It is also very important to let you paint or ink dry completely before embossing. If not and you go to sand you will not get crisp colored embossing instead you will just streak your paint or ink.

In my #3 turquoise snowflake example I noticed the paper becomes somewhat thin in certain areas so I had to be careful not to sand too much or holes will appear

You can sand as little or as much as you like to make the color come through. If you get a few stubborn spots that won't sand away just use an emery board to concentrate on specific spots.

When inking or painting try to put on a lot of color..your cardstock color should not be visible. When inking press your ink pad or blending tool into the paper making sure the ink gets into those fibers. For painting dab on the paint again pushing it into the fibers.

I think this technique is a great way to make the most of your embossing folders. Plus with all the ink colors and paint colors available now a days the combos are endless. Pink/red for Valentines, green/gold for St. Patricks day, dark pink/light pink for baby shower. You could even choose your friends and families favorite colors or match a patterned paper. I know I'm excited to find a use for all the acrylic paint I stashed. I used to be a decorative painter before my kids started occupying my time!

Okay now to show you my card.



I once again tried my hand at coloring with my Copic markers. I was actually looking forward to coloring a smaller area as the ink started drying out when coloring the flower last week but.....this paper was giving me fits! I used Georgia Pacific and it has a tendency to bleed like crazy. I was always the good girl that colored inside the lines so when that ink kept creeping out of the black lines it was driving me nuts. It took quite a few tries and a couple coats of a workable fixative spray but I think I finally have a decent image on my card. I had to be careful not to color too close to the black lines especially with the darker colors. I will definitely be ordering different paper soon and seeing if that helps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This being my only second try...they say three times the charm right! Hopefully, I'll have better luck coloring next time.

Oh I forgot to say I used At You Spica Glitter makers for the drawn bells. I also used an Elmer's white painter's pen for details. I have one more tip for you. See photo below.



I wanted a silver mat around my image but didn't have any silver paper...so I just ran ink around the edge of a white scrap and let it dry. You can also use your copics and the broad tip to draw a border on any old scrap paper to make a mat too! Sooo frugal..gotta love it!

If you like the jingle bell die cut I used in my card you can get the digital cutter file in my membership club. Click preview below to purchase. On the bell for my card I used some paint meant for drawing silver dots on fabric..probably not the best choice! I should have used multiple layers of silver embossing powder to make it look more like metal bell. Oh well live and learn!



I know I promised you a freebie. Thanks for allowing me to show you my newly discovered technique! As a parting gift I am going to give you the digi stamp I used on my card for free. I will be selling digi stamps in the store at some point in time. I am a little confused as far as what format you all would prefer: jpg., transparent png, tif etc. Also would you like to see a whole sheet of images so you can instantly print them without having to copy and paste? Frugal Fridays: Notepad for $1.00..great stocking stuffers and teacher's gifts!

Hello everyone,
It's finally Friday! I have a good friend Elizabeth (aka scramper75) coming to visit this weekend! I can't wait to see her and hopefully get in some crafting time!

(Just wanted to share with you a tip....if you don't have any double sided paper make your own by using spray adhesive to adhere two sheets together...if your machine is capable of cutting heavy layers you could even do a two thin pattern papers and a solid cardstock layer in the middle!)


I wanted to share with you a card I made. See the snowflake? I used the same technique I used to do the the buttons on my previous post. (If you missed it scroll down). I started with only 1 white snowflake then several layers of poly sparkle embossing powder. I am simply amazed at how this turned that paper into a sparkly plastic type of material. I can't wait to make more!



Photos just don't do justice to how pretty the snowflake is but here is a close up and you can kinda tell how it looks like glittery plastic.

Kelly's baby will soon be here yet she continues to amaze me with all the wonderful projects she keeps cranking out! Time for some inspiration and free files!

I am always making cards for birthday, anniversaries and to say thanks. With two little ones at home I can't be fussing around trying to figure what I want to do to make my cards. I love sketches so I use them all the time for inspiration that still lets me be creative. I am hosting a card sketch challenge on the Paperthreads forum. Above is an example of what I made using the scrapbook sketch. It is a hyrbrid version since doing the photo collage was so much easier in PSE then it would be by hand. I also used Scrappin Cops wonderful clipboard to show a prayer my nephew had created so we could bless our food. I used fluid chalk, copper Creative Memories pen for stitching and fibers also.

Rice Cereal layout---spots and circles

Here is a layout I did for the Scrapbook Cafe Sat challenge #21. It involved using anything with circles and dots. This layout was suppose to go together quick and easy since I had the photo picked out and used a Scrapbook Etc. made in minutes layout as a base. However, I got carried away with the embellishments. First, I thought the photos were kinda dark for my base so I dotted and dashed borders around them with my trusty uniball signo white pen. Then for the bowl I decided to put some dimensional glass effect paint. For some reason the paint cracked so now my bowl looked like an aged ceramic one enhanced with fluid chalk. I wanted a chipboard title but my Silhouette can't cut chipboard so I cut 4 layers of black cardstock glued them all together and layered the brown ontop...sanded with an emery board then fluid chalked the whole thing. It does resemble chipboard quite well. I cut out the spoon then inked it with silver and layered several layers of clear embossing powder to turn my paper into metal. Had to attach to attach the spoon with some pizazz so I added eyelets and crochet yarn. I wanted my journaling to show up better so I sanded the box a little to let the white core show through. The brads on the ribbon strip weren't my idea as they were in my sample layout.
I can't believe my daughter was that little not too long ago.
She is on the go constantly and refuses to let us feed her most of the time. I vaguely remember when she could barely eat this rice cereal.

One card/many looks!

I designed a card for Chris Durnan's file challenge (hurry there is still time to join...click here for more details). I recently got some flocking and so wanted to try it out. So I cut Chris's zig zag border file which I received in the challenge and flocked it....as well as a layered flower by Carrie's Creations. I just love flocking! It adds such great texture! I was amazed at how much like rick rack Chris's wonderful border turned out to be. I kinda got carried away with the glitter gel pens though. The ribbon is American Crafts 6ft roll. I did the card again using actually rick rack..see below.

Come snuggle with my teddy bear!

I made this card for a friend of mine using Wishblading Well's files. I used fluid chalk to add depth to the edges and regular chalk for the cheeks. I also added gloss paint for the eyes and nose. I hand made the little heart out of Darice wire. I hand embossed the onsie following the pattern on the Creative Memories paper. I made it look a little distressed since baby boys are far from neat! I resisted buying those little safety pins for the longest time but thought it added just the right touch for this teddy! Thanks for looking! Shelly

























inside of card. I used my own file for the scalloped heart and used the pen tool on my digital cutter with an American Crafts gel pen for the sentiment.
