Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday 214: Stamping with Neutrals

Dawn McVey has a wonderful video showing how to make neutral colors shine in your projects for the latest Make it Monday challenge.  Check it out here.

I decided to make a rustic card for the challenge.  I stamped Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf  in Memento Rich Cocoa onto rustic cream card stock.  I just love the little flecks that add such interest to this card stock!  My PTI craft ink pad needs refilled but in this case the semi-dry pad was perfect for stamping a lighter set of leaves.  I added berries from PTI's bells and boughs in PTI scarlet jewel ink.  The sentiment is from PTI's Year Round Puns stamp set also stamped in scarlet jewel ink.  The flowers are from PTI's Honey Bees stamped in PTI melon berry ink.   This is definitely an older set but I have used the various flowers from this set over and over again.  They are just the perfect size!  The card seemed a little plain so to add some "zing" I added teeny tiny bronze beads to the center of the flowers with glossy accents.

Thanks for looking!  Please come back again!

Papertrey Ink Building Block challenge

Wow!  I am soo loving the latest Papertrey Ink's anniversary challenge.  It's fun and something that one can pull out when in a creative rut. See each design team member had a specific element they were in charge of in helping us make a card.  They gave us a list and then we roll the die and whichever number corresponds to the list is the one we use.  Hmmm.. that sounded soo confusing..maybe you should head on over to Nicole's blog for a better explanation after you get done visiting me.

Here is my chance threw my way:
Colors:  Pure Poppy, Berry Sorbet, Aqua Mist, and White
Occasion: Congrats
Technique:  Rock and Roll (never tried this until tonight..kinda neat..click here for video)
Embellishments:  Rhinestones
Fiber:  Thread (Zig Zag stitched the banner)
Sketch:

I used all Papertrey Ink stamps.  Rosie Posie,  Everyday Classics (Anniversary Set), Honey Bees. I was a little afraid to start this card considering I normally stick with tried and true color combos.  It actually didn't turn out too bad and was quite fun!  I really would have liked one more color so I could use it for the small flowers in the patterned paper I stamped.  Also, the rock and roll technique would have been more apparent in different colors I believe.  I want to try this again some day.  Overall though the card came about pretty quickly and I am pretty happy with it!  It will be interesting to see what new color combos I'll draw from this challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!  Come visit me again!

Card A Day Blog: Get Well and Fusion #2

It's my turn again to continue the Get Well theme at the Card A Day blog.  This is a theme card that should be always in one's stash.  But guess what it's never in mine!  I needed two cards for two friends who recently had surgery.  So this one will be used immediately and I may just duplicate it for the other friend.  Note to self:  make more Get Well cards!

I decided to use the Fusion Challenge #2 for the inspiration of my card.

When I saw this photo I immediately thought of bees!  Weird huh!  Well it works because I have an adorable bee stamp set that I was dying to use.  Let me show you my card then I'll explain more of how it came about.

I wanted to use hexagons with the bees and since the fusion sketch didn't have any hexagon shapes I sought inspiration elsewhere.  I had pinned this card by Sheri Feypel.  I loved her use of hexagons..embossing..and butterflies.  I figured bees would work just as well as butterflies so I got to creating.  I punched the hexagons using the 1 1/4 inch size.  I used Papertrey Ink's honey bees stamps and embossed the bees.  Does embossing powder get old?  I tried various inks and two different embossing powders plus different papers but the surface failed to get raised and shiny.  Eventually I ended up using Versamark ink stamping...heat embossing then stamping image over the embossing before then heat embossing again getting the raised image I wanted.  Thank goodness I was using clear stamps or that would have been impossible!  I used some fun flock on the the largest bees yellow body to make it nice and fuzzy.  The sentiment is from PTI's honey bee sentiments.  I embossed the background with a wood grain embossing folder to mimic the fusion photo then rubbed some grey ink over the embossing to bring out the details more.  I added some white sequins to mimic the flight of the bees and add movement to the card.

Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again..I'll have another challenge card to share soon.  It's freezing here..hope it's warm where you are!  I think I need to buy more sweaters!  Brrr!

Color Throwdown #261

I needed a quick card for a good friend who is going through a rough patch lately.  Papertrey ink had a blog hop yesterday.  The theme was wreaths so I used a wreath.  But drat I wasn't able to post yesterday so I missed the hop.  I also looked to Color Throwdown for their latest color scheme.  Just love these blues mixed withe yellow and green!

I pulled out Papertrey Ink's Guide lines two and stamped the background.  This is the perfect stamp set for color challenges.  It was fun watching the patterned paper take shape.  I definitely will be using these again.

Supplies:
Papertrey Ink Stamps:  Guide lines two, Turning a New Leaf, Honey Bees, Mehndi Medallion Mini,  Sentiment: Fiskars??
Momento Ink:  Bahama Blue, Cantaloupe, Danube Blue, Bamboo Leaves
Ribbon and small pearls

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great Friday!  Please come by again!

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #127 Double Backgrounds

Yipee!  I got to craft, make a card for a friend who is under the weather and participate in challenges at the same time!  Got to love that!  Let's see I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Make it Monday 256
oops...missed the deadline for this challenge..Aug 2nd!

Papertrey Ink Make it Monday #127 Double Backgrounds

Color Throwdown #253

I used my Scalloped Card file for a majority of the card.  Some of the  stamps I used were from Papertrey Ink.  The bee and sentiment is from the Honey Bee set and the flourish is from Happy Day set.  You can't tell in the photo but I added some sparkle to the bee with Spica Copic glitter makers. The background stamps were Paintable Grid by Prima and then overlaid that with Stampin' Ups Itty Bitty backgrounds for the double background technique.

I have sad news.  My store is closing but I will be moving my files to another store in the future.  I will let you know more info at a later date.  Anyway....I decided to have a blowout sale and offer all my files at 70% off for the entire month of Aug.  I will be added new files so please check back throughout the month.  Click here to go shopping.

If you would like to purchase the file I used for my card.  You can do so by clicking the preview below.  It is a great deal..only 99cents!

Thanks for stopping by!  I am having tons of fun participating in these challenges so I hope to do more in the next couple days.  It's soo stress relieving to craft.  I don't know how I could live without it!

Have a good week and please come back again!
