Christmas: PTI MIM #79 Fabric Die Cuts and MFW gallon, quart, pint challenges

Do you think about using fabric when creating your projects?  I mostly do cards and scrapbooking.  I help the ladies at church make quilts and they have been giving me their left over fabric.  So I do have some to use but it was soo disorganized I didn't know what I had!  So I never thought to pull it out when crafting much.  The latest Make it Monday video from Papertrey ink has inspired me to sort my fabrics by color and put them where I know I can access them.  Melissa shows her tricks for cutting fabric with manual dies in a wonderful video here.  She challenged us to dig out some fabric too.

I'm afraid I don't have many Papertrey ink manual dies.  But I do have the vintage picnic set.  This is one of the first sets I had purchased of PTI's.  I just love how it's so versatile and you can fill the basket with many things.  I had yet to use it though!  Gasp!  I had this red and green plaid fabric that reminded me of a picnic basket liner so I figured it would be perfect.  The burlap ribbon from the previous card was still sitting out and it reminded me of a woven basket so thus I used it.  It stamped amazingly well!  This red ribbon with green stitching and green backing matched my card perfectly!  I colored the image with Copics quickly adding some glitter glue to the star and berries to liven them up a bit.  The bow is topped with a terry cloth star..too cute!  Woo Hoo!  One Christmas card complete!  I may add a sentiment to it yet..but which sentiment I use depends on whether this card with accompany a gift or not.

I am also entering this card in the Gallon/Quart/Pint Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.  They discuss the rules of using certain amounts of color in your projects for an eye pleasing effect.  Check out the deets here. I never realized how well this rule works until I checked out their examples and put the rules into effect myself.  I used green as my gallon color (most use) then red is my quart color and yellow is my pint color (least used).  The little pops of yellow really adds to the card keeping it lively!  I will definitely pay more attention to this rule in the future!

Supplies:
Papertrey Ink: Vintage Picnic Stamps and Dies
Ribbon, paper, and terry cloth star: from my stash
Fabric: Plaid scallop circle and picnic basket liner
Nestabilities scallop circle and plain circle die
Studio G and Stickles glitter glue

Adoree had her first soccer game today.  I will share some photos soon.  I'm very tired tonight for some reason so I must catch some ZZZs!  Thanks for stopping by and please come back to visit me again!

Papertrey Ink August 2012 Blog Hop and Moxie Fab Repetition Challenge

It's time again for the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. This month features wonderful textures and patterns like burlap, herringbone and chevron. These photos really do remind me that Fall is coming! I'm not ready to dawn coats but I am ready for cooler temps. I just love the colors of Fall and I much prefer adding layers then trying to keep cool!

I must say at first glance these photos were quite intimidating.  I did not have any felt these colors nor did I have any stamps or embossing folders in the chevron, argyle or herringbone patterns.  So I was at a loss of what kind of project to do...where to start!  Then I got to thinking a friend had given me some wired edge burlap ribbon and I could make a paper on my computer to mimic the look of herringbone so thus...

The above card was born!  I used my buttons galore file to cut the butterflies out of the computer generated herringbone paper.  I did omit the button holes and used the negative space for this card.  I backed the butterflies with the burlap ribbon.  I cut the wire edge off and used that for the butterfly antennae.  Another friend had given me this fuzzy beige yarn so I cut out sticky circle, tied a knot in the yarn, stuck it onto the circle in the middle and wound it around to form a flower so to speak.  A flat backed pearl finishes the flower.  The greeting is place on a die cut from my Card Base 2 file.  The greeting is from Papertrey Ink Round and Round 2009 Anniversary Set.

Although I was nervous to begin this card I truly love the way it turned out.  Now I just have to find a use for the herringbone butterflies and are left over!

I am also entering this in the  Repetition Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. Click here if you'd like to see more details about this challenge.

Papertrey Ink Make it Monday #78 Stitching and Stamping

Once again popping at the last minute with my Make it Monday challenge entry.  In case you missed it Nichole has a wonderful video on her blog depicting how Heather Nichols stamps and then stitches on her cards.  You can see it here. Stitching does take a little time but I think the effort is worth it as it adds soo much interest and texture to projects.  Below is a layout I did with stitching added to it.  I definitely like it more now that I took the time to stitch.  Sorry about the poor photo..daylight was dwindling when I took it!
(click on photo for a larger view)
Gosh look at those little darlings!  This seems like eons ago...my son is now 8 and my daughter is 5..where did toddlerhood go?  I really don't dress my kids on a day to day basis thinking of how they will look on a layout together.  (well..I might put them in colors that don't clash with orange at pumpkin picking time!).  However, I so wish Tyler wasn't wearing SpongeBob jammies!  Adoree has a pretty soft blue dress on which is perfect for the mood of this layout...SpongeBob clashes!  UGH!  Well as least it's yellow and yellow matches right!

I stitched little veins in the leaves.
Then I felt like I need one additional stitched element for cohesion so I pulled out some stitching templates from Oriental Trading and stitched a flourish.  I used variegated yellow floss to help blend in the bright yellow stamping (and Sponge Bob) versus the soft yellow in the background paper.
I am trying to do more stamping in my scrapbooks.  For some reason I never think about stamps unless it's time to make a card.  So my goal over the next few months is to break out of that habit. I hope to scrapbook a little more too as I'm sure you guys are tired of seeing only cards! So stay tuned for more layouts!

I used my file Notebook Edge:  shaped notes for the journaling box.  I cut it out of lined paper and stamped it with a flower from PTI Honey Bees and also PTI fancy flourishes.  If you would like to purchase this file..please click on the preview below.  Hurry it is on sale for the rest of this month (8/31/2012EST).

Papertrey ink MIM #77 Ink Pads as Watercolors

Just popping in before heading to bed with my Papertrey ink Make It Monday 77 card.  Whew...I didn't think I'd get it done before the deadline!  This technique involves using ink pads mixed with water to water color outline stamps.  Check out the video here

Sorry about the poor photo..the sun has long since gone down here!  I really had a lot of fun coloring with my ink pads.  I don't remember the exact colors I used.  I did use watercolor paper though which for me is must when playing with this technique.  I kept adding colors and water and the paper was pretty wet when I was finished.  I don't have many outline stamps from PTI so I had to use this tiny pansy image from Year of Flowers.  I think it would be soo much fun doing this on a larger scale.  I had the image colored on Friday and was quite happy with it.  Tonight I finally got a chance to put it on a card and I was stumped!  I wanted soft colors that wouldn't interfere with the soft tiny image.  I finally pulled some patterned papers from K C & Company stamped the peach one with more pansies for a tone on tone paper.  After sifting through various papers nothing worked then I remembered I had that old book sitting there.  So I pulled a page from that and it worked great!  I was sooo happy!  Oh and one hint if you use your electronic cutter to cut this paper adhere it to some cardstock first as it's too delicate to cut cleanly.  I stamped the one book page with PTI's fancy flourishes.  I used my Card Base 4 cutter file for all the pieces.  It is great because you don't have to think about where to put everything and all the pieces stack nicely together just like a puzzle!

If you would like to purchase my file please click on the preview below to be taken directly to it in my store.

Supplies:
PTI stamps:  Year of Flowers Collection, Fancy Flourishes
Cardstock: PTI melon berry .. other cardstock from my scraps
Paper: KC & Company patterned paper
Ink: Melon Berry (PTI), and purples, reds and yellows from Memento
Cutter file:  Shelly's Art Card Base 4

Thanks for stopping by!  Please come back again!  Time for me to catch some ZZZs!

PTI MIM #76: Double Time Bleach Stamping

The Papertrey Ink Make it Monday video this week involved stamping with bleach and then adding color to the bleached image with another stamp.  Hmm I'm not explaining that very well..the video does a much better job..see it here.

I love the look of distressed or antiqued looking cards.  However, every time I try and duplicate that look it never turns out quite to my liking.  I have never tried stamping with bleach before but as you can see..the results are a distressed background with very little effort.  I just love it!  I must make a few more of these bleached backgrounds before Summer is over.  The bleach smell is a little overwhelming and I recommend doing it outside if at all possible.  I also think next time I will use a large plate to hold my bleach soaked paper towels as Lisa Johnson did in this post.  My stamp was soo large that it was hard to ink up in that CD case size and bleach did spill a little on the picnic table.  So a larger plate or something with deeper sides would be better. I was inspired by Lisa Johnson's cards so I cased her.  I was trying to stay away from florals because I need more masculine cards in my stash.

Supplies:
Stamps:  Paper Trey Ink:  Turning a New Leaf and Paper Tray (sentiment).  Studio G: label
Cardstock:  Craft, PTI Ripe Avocado
Ink:  Memento (Rich Cocoa), Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Peeled Paint)
Ribbon and stud from my stash

Thanks for looking!  Have a fab weekend!  Please come back again!
